Accessibility

The Fralin Museum of Art at the University of Virginia is housed in the historic Bayly Building, on the hill overlooking Madison Bowl. Although the main entrance is accessible only by stairs, we offer a fully-accessible entrance at the back of the building, via Bayly Drive with a limited number of accessible parking spaces. In addition to those spaces, regular spaces may be reserved and used with permission from museum staff.

All galleries in the museum are accessible by elevator and museum assistants and security staff are available to assist. A wheelchair accessible restroom is available on the lower level. The museum has a limited number of wheelchairs, and strollers for children, available to borrow during your visit. Please call the reception desk at 434-243-5584 prior to visiting, for assistance with parking and entering the building.

Tours

The museum offers tours to groups of all ages, from pre-school and K-12 students to social clubs and senior centers. We offer a variety of tour types to meet the needs and interest of every group. Interactive docent-led tours engage visitors in dialogue about the works on view, and tours led by graduate students, staff, and curators can be planned provide more information and historical context. School Tours

Teachers are invited to schedule interactive docent-led tours of current exhibitions for K–12 students. Designed to increase visual literacy on an age-appropriate level, these tours can be customized to address classroom topics or specific interests. NEW School group tour booking form.

Group Tours

Get a fresh perspective! University student organizations and community groups are encouraged to schedule group tours of the museum exhibitions and collection. Our docents are happy to tailor their tour to the interests of your group. NEW Adult group tour booking form.

Directions

The Fralin Museum of Art is located at 155 Rugby Road, one block north of the Rotunda, on the Grounds of the University of Virginia.

From I-64 East or Westbound
Take exit 118B for US-29 North towards Charlottesville/Culpeper. Drive approximately 2 miles, then exit onto US-250 Business East/Ivy Road towards Charlottesville. Turn right and follow Ivy Road for approximately 1.5 miles. At the fifth traffic light, turn left on Rugby Road. The Museum is the second building on the left.

From I-66 via US Route 29 North
Take I-66 from Northern Virginia past Manassas. Take exit 43A for US-29 South/Lee Highway towards Gainesville. Follow Route 29 approximately 69 miles into Charlottesville, where Route 29 becomes Emmett Street. Pass John Paul Jones arena on the right, then turn left onto US-250 Business East/University Avenue. At the first traffic light, turn left on Rugby Road. The Museum is the second building on the left.

Parking

Select parking available behind the museum and in the A-6 lot adjacent to Madison Bowl. Cash metered parking available in Culbreth Garage. FREE after 5 pm and on weekends.
