About the Collection

The permanent collection of The Fralin Museum of Art at the University of Virginia consists of nearly 14,000 objects. In support of our academic mission, the museum provides opportunities for study and scholarship through direct engagement with the collection and virtual access through digital resources. Approximately 26% of the collection is available at any time for research and exploration through our Online Collection, while our open storage and study areas—the Object Study Gallery, the Print Study Gallery, and Painting Storage—offer further insight into the collection for faculty, students, and the general public.

Highlights

The Fralin's collection highlights include European and American painting, photography, works on paper, African art, and American Indian art. Many of our finest objects are available online for browsing and study.

Temporary Museum Closure

In addition to COVID-19 restrictions, the museum will remain closed for pre-planned building maintenance including a new roof and HVAC system. We will reopen in the spring semester.
