The Fralin teaching galleries provide unique object-based study and research opportunities for UVA faculty across a wide-variety of disciplines, and the museum encourages University faculty to utilize our exhibitions and collection to enhance curricular goals in all subject areas.

Clinician’s Eye

Exposure to art helps medical students build their observational and diagnostic ‘toolkit.’ Launched in 2013 in partnership with UVA's School of Medicine, Clinician’s Eye is based on similar programs at leading medical schools, and includes interactive tours as well as drawing and writing exercises.

Final Fridays

Final Friday has been a favorite event of both students and the Charlottesville community for decades. Held on the last Friday of the month during the academic year, all are welcome to come and enjoy art, music, food, and a variety of activities, such as artmaking and student docent-led gallery talks.

Our Student Docents facilitate close-looking with original works of art, gain vital experience as museum educators, and serve the community by leading tours for thousands of area school children every year.

Internships

The University Museums Internship Class (undergraduate): ARTH 4951/4952 The University Museums Internship is a two-semester sequence of two three-credit courses. Students will do internships (lasting for an academic year) at either The Fralin Museum of Art or the Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection.

Writer’s Eye challenges writers of all ages to use visual art in The Fralin as inspiration for the creation of original poetry and prose.

The Museum's innovative teaching galleries provide unique object-based study and research opportunities for UVA. faculty members across a wide-variety of disciplines.

Faculty are welcome to hold classes in the galleries and access pieces from the Museum's permanent collection relevant to their field—from the humanities to the sciences.
