Leveraging Art to Build Empathy
NEW DATE: Wednesday, November 18
4:30–6:30pm via Zoom
In this 2-hour interactive professional development workshop, K-12 teachers will engage in close looking and dialogue about the dynamic photography of Carrie Mae Weems. Educators from The Fralin will model resources used to foster discussion and challenge bias, and share strategies for practicing empathy in the teaching context. To quote a recent participant, "Bring[ing] an empathetic mind to talking about [art]... allows us to see objects as windows to other's experiences and opens those boxes we so carefully constructed to make our world."
