Donating Art

The Fralin Museum of Art cares for a comprehensive collection that supports the educational needs of UVA students, faculty, staff, and our community. The Fralin augments the collection through purchases, commissions, gifts, and bequests. Proposed gifts are reviewed by the museum’s curators to determine whether the work of art is consistent with our mission and strategic goals.

Should you wish to give a work of art, please email your inquiry to Elizabeth Wright, director of development at elizabethwright@virginia.edu. In your correspondence, please provide all known information about the work, including the artist or its cultural origin, how the work was acquired, and any additional known history. Gift proposals should also include an image of the work (cellphone photographs are acceptable), approximate dimensions, and any known information of its past ownership.

Please do not send, ship, or bring original artworks to The Fralin; we cannot return artworks to senders and will not be responsible for the care of these works. Artworks received in this manner will not be reviewed or considered for the museum’s collection.

Temporary Museum Closure

In addition to COVID-19 restrictions, the museum will remain closed for pre-planned building maintenance including a new roof and HVAC system. We will reopen in the spring semester.
