Writer's Eye 2022

Now in its 36^th year, Writer’s Eye challenges writers of all ages to use visual art in The Fralin as inspiration for the creation of original poetry and prose. This annual ekphrastic writing program—introduced by docents Carole Armstrong and Valerie Morris in 1986—has become the museum’s flagship educational offering.

Museum Hours

Monday: Closed
Tuesday: 10 am – 5 pm
Wednesday: 10 am – 5 pm
Thursday: 10 am – 5 pm
Friday: 10 am – 8 pm
Saturday: 10 am – 5 pm
Sunday: 12 pm – 5 pm

The museum is closed on the following holidays: New Year's Day, Independence Day, Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.

Parking

Select parking available behind the Museum and in the A-6 lot adjacent to Madison Bowl. Cash metered parking available in Culbreth Garage. FREE after 5 pm and on weekends.

Accessibility

The Fralin Museum of Art at the University of Virginia is housed in the historic Bayly Building, on the hill overlooking Madison Bowl. Although the main entrance is accessible only by stairs, we offer a fully-accessible entrance at the back of the building, via Bayly Drive with a limited number of accessible parking spaces. In addition to those spaces, regular spaces may be reserved and used with permission from Museum staff. All galleries in the museum are accessible by elevator. Click here for more information.
