Expansion Initiative

To accommodate larger, more innovative exhibitions and provide space to showcase the Museum’s growing collection, as well as to better support the educational programs core to the mission of The Fralin, plans were developed in 2012, for a 16,340 square foot, four-level addition to the west-side of the current Museum building.

This new wing will increase exhibition space by 64% and nearly double the useable programming space, creating a dedicated Education Resource Room, a new signature gallery, a loading dock and catering kitchen, visible storage spaces and a new meeting space for seminars and classes.

Sitting at the forefront of the Betsy and John Casteen Arts Grounds, The Fralin Museum is a gem in the crown of the arts at the University of Virginia. Both in its physical presence and through its strong, interdisciplinary programming, an expanded Fralin will serve as the convener for the arts at the University, as well as for the citizens we serve, throughout Charlottesville and southeastern Virginia.
